Research
LIFE - Faculty of Life Sciences has a long and proud research tradition.
At LIFE, the traditional food, agriculture and veterinary science disciplines now go hand in hand with new fields such as nanotechnology, plant biotechnology, reproduction technology, biomedicine, chemometry and interdisciplinary subjects such as bioinformatics, and not least the ethically oriented areas such as bioethics and research animal welfare.
Internationally, LIFE is well known for our core competences in the following seven fields:
-
Animals, ethics and welfare
-
Climate, energy and the environment
-
Food, nutrition and health
-
Plants, agriculture and natural resources
-
Politics, economics and developing countries
-
Forest, land and urban development
-
Biotechnology
LIFE has a strong PhD education and a number of elite research areas within these seven core competence areas.

Covering the needs of society
LIFE's research forms the basis for the faculty's research-based teaching.
This is a prerequisite for our being able to cover society's need for graduates and know-how in agriculture, the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries, the food industry, veterinary authorities, and in animal hospitals and clinics - nationally as well as internationally.
The international face of our research
As we are the only Danish university faculty within a number of our subject areas, it has always been natural to look beyond our own confines for professional inspiration and sparring.
This has helped to make our researchers more internationally advanced in a number of areas. LIFE is continually seeking to retain and extend this position.
Global sharing of knowledge
The faculty has a special responsibility to share its knowledge on efficient and safe food production, the environment, nature management, and not least nutrition in animals and man with those parts of the world in which food on the table is not a matter of course.
Research focussing on developing countries has a very special priority at LIFE faculty for the benefit of both our own knowledge base and for the people and regions of the world where we are helping to ensure clean water, food on the table and healthy farm animals and crops.
